Feed Your Mane: A 4-Course Meal That Promises to Induce Hair-Envy

May 2, 2008

For most of my life, I’ve happily had my hair hang half-way down my back. Shiny brown waves bounced over my shoulders and framed my face. I styled it with ease and it complied with my technique. Guaranteed good hair days. No surprises.

This Spring, I cut off over 10 inches for Pantene’s Beautiful Length’s charity. I was hungry for a new look and couldn’t imagine a better reason to satisfy the urge.

Now my hair tickles the tops of my shoulders and subtly mocks my inability to tame and control it as I once effortlessly had.

Not one to be defeated, I was determined to devise a new approach to reconquer the unruly shorter strands.

In doing so, a revelation emerged:

Your hair is like your man. To get it to do what you want, feed it something good! (No, I haven’t lost my mind, I’m not saying you have the time or energy to cook, just feed!)

These days I’m feeding my hair the nutrients and ingredients it craves — and it’s returning the favor by behaving.

The MANE Menu: Select one (1) for each course*

STARTERS (in shower)

-Pantene Texturize Shampoo & Conditioner

-Barex Gloss Shampoo & Conditioner

FIRST COURSE (damp hair)

-Pantene ProV Restoratives Frizz Control

-Phytodefrisant Botanical Hair Relaxing Balm

SECOND COURSE (blown hair)

-Rusk Sheer Brilliance

-Phytolisse Finishing Serum

DESSERT (styled hair)

-Pantene ProV Texturize Ultimate Texture Hairspray

-ProfoundBeauty Volume Power Hairspray

*For bold experimenters, you can mix the two products in each stage and eventually find the exact ratio that works best for your hair type.  Does not apply for Starters, natch.

Bon App!!

Many people have claimed that Prep. H. works wonders under the eyes. What’s your take on this? And what do you recommend for this?

Switching gears to skincare, I have to honestly answer that Preparation H works. It does.

However, although it is made for “sensitive skin,” it is not indicated for the under-eye area. Prep H is potent. I would save it for an emergency. It’s your birthday, your wedding, your book signing, your divorce party… You know you will be either (a) the center of attention or (b) photographed and your under eye bags and circles, immortalized.

Too much Prep H could damage the elasticity of the skin, making the situation worse in the long run.

I suggest actual eye creams instead, formulated specifically for the eye area. Refer to “The Original Master List” post for my favorites.
