You would think with a virtual monopoly on the online invitations market, Evite would actually excel at its very own game.  How disappointing to learn that after years and years of offering its service (well after the acceptable launch period complete with quirks and errors has passed), it still pretty much sucks.  Glitches, computer slowdowns, non-existent usability.   Mid-way through the VERY slow process of uploading background images and main images and selecting fonts and colors, it just shuts down, unapologetically, requiring the user to start the tedious process all over again.  Really now, WTF?

I mean, who runs that show and isn’t there any pride in offering a product (albeit free to users) that works?!

Do site advertisers realize the frustration that amasses while using this service makes me think poorly of them too?  Beware, marketers, of the reverse-halo effect!

I’m thinking a boycott may be necessary.  That is, if anyone knows of any decent alternatives… Otherwise, I’ll be the hypocrite sending the evite while whining about it.

Please make an honest woman out of me and send suggestions.

I work for a new planning site called Center’d (www.centerd.com), that ties together local search, planning tools, and trusted community to make planning easier.

We don’t have as much invite customization available yet, but we do have features like time and place polling that help people coordinate plans with friends.

We’re discussing what type of customization we should enable, so I’d love to hear your suggestions if you have a chance to check out the site.
